FIANNA FÁIL SELECT CANDIDATES FOR MALLOW-KANTURK AREA

Fianna Fáil has selected its candidates to contest the 2014 Local Elections in the new Mallow/Kanturk local electoral area.

Cllr Bart Donegan, Cllr Dan Joe Fitzgerald and Bernard Moynihan have been selected to contest for Fianna Fáil in the area.

Mallow-Kanturk is a newly created Electoral Area following the report and recommendation of Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee published last May.  It is an amalgamation of the old Mallow and Kanturk areas with Charleville, Ballyhea, Newtownshan-drum, Doneraile, Castle-townroche, Shanballymore and Killavullen moved from the old Mallow area to the Fermoy electoral area. In the outgoing Council, the Mallow area had six seats and Kanturk had four while the newly configured Mallow-Kanturk area will return just six Councillors next May.

Cllr Fitzgerald has been a member of Cork County Council since 1999 and has been a member of the soon to be abolished Mallow Town Council and Mayor of Mallow a couple of terms. Cllr Donegan was co-opted to Cork County Council following the death of his father in January 2012 Meanwhile Bernard Moynihan is a first time candidate and is the brother of Deputy Michael Moynihan who has been a Dail Deputy for Cork North West since 1997.

The candidates were chosen by Fianna Fáil members at a selection Convention, held in Mallow at the weekend.
