There is great excitement in Mallow Golf Club this week as members look forward to the club’s under 18 team’s trip to Derry for the Fred Daly All Ireland Finals next Tuesday in Moyola Park Golf Club. They qualified for the All Irelands after winning the Munster Final two weekends ago, and after finishing runners-up in 2013 they are hoping to go one better this time and bring the Fred Daly back to Mallow. On Tuesday they will tee off against the Ulster champions, Tandragee, in one semi-final while the Leinster champions play the Connacht champions in the other.
The team is in the capable hands of the management team of David Walsh and Maurice O’Connor, and they have been practising hard for the big games next Tuesday. The winners and runners-up in the All Irelands will win a trip to Spain to compete in the Home Nations trophy event. The Mallow team comprises Edward Walsh, Conor Roche, Greg Barrett, Liam Dowling, Roy Whelan, Eoin Ahern and Daniel O’Sullivan. Subs are Jack Dillon and Adam Walsh.
The juvenile section of Mallow Golf Club has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years under the guidance of its juvenile officer, Barry Linehan, plus committee members Mary Redmond, Marie O’Sullivan and Mary Dowling. The two captains in the club, Miriam O’Keeffe and Peter McKenna, are also actively involved.
