Friends present echo machine to hospital

The Friends of Mallow General Hospital recently presented a cardiac ultrasound/echocardiography machine, one of the most useful diagnostic tools in cardiology and acute medical care, to the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) at Mallow General Hospital. Accepting the presentation, Dr. Ceara Hart, Clinical Lead of the MAU, thanked the Friends for their generous gift, and also thanked the people of North Cork who made the purchase possible with their generous donations. She added that the echo machine would provide invaluable information on a wide variety of illnesses such as acute breathlessness, low blood pressure, murmurs and chest pain. “The ability to perform echocardiography in the MAU will facilitate prompt decision making, guide therapy, and improve the quality of patient care,” she said.
Jack Madden, speaking on behalf of the Friends, said that the group was delighted to donate equipment which will be of benefit to patients, and Senior Cardiac Technician Anne Hickey gave a live demonstration of the machine.
