Gaelscoil celebrates 30th birthday

Gaelscoil Thomais Daibhis yesterday celebrated a special birthday, the 30th anniversary of the school welcoming its first pupils. The Gaelscoil, which began in the basement room of the Parish Centre in September 1985 with Cathal O Riada its first Principal and teacher, and with less than 20 pupils, grew and developed over the years, first moving into accommodation next to Davis College in Annabella for several years before finally getting its own home when a new school was built in the Summerhill area.

Today the school has a large and growing pupil population, with Donal O Murchu and a dedicated staff of teachers, and demand for places is so strong that permission was recently granted for an extension to the school complex.
