Rotary Club of Mallow member Gerry Callanan achieved a signal honour recently when captaining the Ireland and Scotland team to victory in the Rotary Club of St Andrew’s International Golf Tournament. The famous Scottish course has seen many great moments over the years, and this tournament was almost as competitive as the professional game, with 190 golfers from the UK, Ireland and overseas taking part, including Kevin and Noreen Brennan. Gerry was accompanied by wife Mary for his first foray into captaincy, and it was a winning debut as the Ireland and Scotland team took the Jubilee Cup, the Tommy Cambell Trophy, for the overall best aggregate score over the two St Andrew’s courses, Eden and the Old Course.
Speaking after the win, Gerry said, “It was a very proud moment for me to captain the Ireland and Scotland team for the first time.”
