St. Patrick’s Church Glenbrohane hosted a special Mass to commemorate all the people who lost their lives during Easter Week 1916 on Sunday last, 24th April. The celebrant, Fr. Willie Hennessy, P.P. showed a deep understanding of the loss of life exactly 100 years ago and he asked the congregation to pray for all the people who died during that Easter Week.
After Mass the Proclamation was read by Louse Rennie (Condon) and Rachel Walsh to a well deserved round of applause from the attendees.
The Tricolour was then raised in the Church grounds by Owen O’Sullivan, whose great grand uncle, Gearóid O’Sullivan, had, in fact, also raised the flag over the G.P.O. in Dublin, almost to the hour a century ago. Everybody then enjoyed a cup of tea and a long chat in the hall, with general agreement that we have a fine country here.
