GLORACH MARKS LIMERICK LANGUAGE ALIVE WEEK WITH MULTI-CULTURAL WELCOME

As part of the recent Limerick Language Alive Week 2011, Glórach Community Theatre hosted “Fáilte Cois Feile”, an evening of entertainment, interaction, communication and refreshments on Friday, October 21st. According to the organisers “The evening offered a unique opportunity for members of our community from a wide variety of countries to come together and share in a celebration of language and cultural expression. We had a fantastic turnout of nearly seventy people who all saw the importance and value of informal intercultural events for the wider community.”

The evening combined “Party Piece” performances from local non-nationals, along with an exhibition area in the Foyer of the Theatre which featured a pictorial review marking the 30th anniversary of the arrival of German company Kostal in Abbeyfeale. Since opening its doors thirty years ago, many Germans have made Abbeyfeale their home and this was seen by organisers as a perfect opportunity to recognise the contribution which the factory has brought to the town through employment but also through the people who have become integral members of our close knit community. The evening was finished off with a small reception allowing both local and international members of our community to mingle, interact and learn more about each other’s cultures. The event was free of charge and supported by the County Limerick VEC

Organisers would like to thank all those who took part for their enthusiasm and contribution.
