Labour TD for Mallow and Cork North Central, Eoghan Kenny, has welcomed the significant progress being made at Mallow General Hospital, following his recent engagement with the HSE.
Deputy Kenny said that important improvements are now underway after he raised the issue earlier this year with the Taoiseach.
“Back in February, I highlighted with the Taoiseach that two floors in Mallow General Hospital were still not open. I’m very glad to see that the obesity unit is now operational, which is a really positive step forward for the hospital and for patients across North Cork.”
Following a meeting with the HSE two weeks ago, Deputy Kenny confirmed that internal works on one of the remaining floors are due for completion by the end of this year, with 24 new in-patient beds expected to become available from February 2026.
“This represents real progress,” he said. “The next key phase will be the delivery of a new outpatient unit, which will further expand the services available locally and help reduce pressure on other hospitals in the region.”
As a Mallow man, Deputy Kenny said he knows how proud the local community is of the hospital and reaffirmed his commitment to securing ongoing investment.
“We’re all incredibly proud of Mallow General Hospital and the care it provides,” Deputy Kenny said. “I will continue working to ensure more services and facilities are developed here during my term as TD. Mallow General Hospital remains one of my top priorities.”“Good progress being made at Mallow General Hospital”
