The County Mayor’s charity event, the ‘Hooley in the Hall’ was a roaring success, raising a grand total of €22,524.48 which will be now shared between two very worthy Cork charities, the Mercy Hospital Foundation Cancer Appeal and Pieta House, Cork. Speaking at the presentation, former Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. John Paul O’Shea commented “I am thrilled to be in such a position as to have held an evening where we collected such an astonishing amount of money. This represents the magnificent culture of charity we have here in Cork and I know that these monies will be put towards many great causes”.
All of the funds raised on the night will now go directly to developing a Cancer Care Centre where patients of the Mercy Hospital and their families can avail of a quiet, safe and supportive environment in the moments after their Cancer diagnosis and while on their Cancer journey at the Hospital. Cork’s Pieta House will put all funds raised towards continuing to provide a safe place for people who are in suicidal distress and/or self-harming.
Cllr. O’ Shea added “The ‘Hooley in the Hall was an ideal opportunity to support these two wonderful organisations in the good work they do for the people of Cork while having a great night out with our colleagues, neighbours and friends. These two charities I know have touched the lives of so many Cork people and carry out absolutely fantastic work. It was been a privilege for me to finish off my tenure as Mayor with the Hooley in the Hall and I would like to thank all those who sponsored and supported and made the Hooley, the success that has resulted in today’s wonderful donation to these deserving charities.”
