HSE retirement night for Mary O’Brien

Mary R O’Brien, Assistant Director of Public Health Nursing in North Cork HSE, retired from her post recently, and her colleagues and family joined her for a retirement celebration last Friday, 9th June, in Springfort Hall Hotel. On the night, Mary O’Flynn, Director of Public Health Nursing, welcomed Mary R, her husband Russell and their family. She outlined Mary R’s nursing career which began in St Finbarr’s General and Maternity Hospitals, Midleton Hospital, and as a Community RGN in North Cork. She also worked with the Irish Cancer Society.
Qualifying as a Public Health Nurse at UCD, Mary R worked throughout North Cork and for the past 17 years has been an Assistant Director of Public Health Nursing. A large number of colleagues past and present from all areas of the community gathered in Springfort Hall last Friday night to pay tribute, and all speakers said the in her work Mary R. had demonstrated wonderful personal and professional qualities during her nursing career.
Mary R. has been a caring, committed, confidential and compassionate professional, and a good care planner and manager who treated her clients and patients with respect. Mary R. was a good colleague and was first to offer help and give support to people, patients or staff, if in need. On the night she was acknowledged and thanked for the many years of Public Health Nursing which she gave to the North Cork community, and she was wished the best for her retirement. A great night of celebration was enjoyed by all.
