Seán Sherlock TD recently presented Mallow Development Partnership with a donation from the Irish American Partnership towards the upcoming Munster Maths and Science Family Fair 2017. At the presentation, Tom Cronin, Chair of the MDP Education and Technology Sub-Group, stated that, “this is a very important grant towards the Munster Maths and Science Family Fair. It is a big vote of confidence in Mallow Development Partnership that the Irish American Fund recognises the work that is being done with schools in the Mallow area to promote the important subjects of Maths and Science. We are indeed very grateful for this very generous funding.”
This is the 7th year of the event which attracts up to 4,500 people to the GAA Complex each October. The organisers are looking forward to an expanded programme this year, with some new exhibitors such as Dell/EMC, Life Time Labs and Outdoor Planetarium, to name but a few, together with regular supporters of the fair such as Institute of Physics, Coderdojo, Kostal, Dairygold, local secondary schools and many many more. Also showcasing exhibits at the fair will be the local primary schools who are involved in the current phase of the Mallow Maths and Science Schools Initiative which is due to be rolled out later this month in conjunction with Mary Immaculate College. The 2017 /2018 programme proposes to work in close collaboration with parents and the schools in the promotion of these subjects. Involving parents in an effort to break down their insecurities regarding maths and science subjects was one of the key elements in securing this grant from the Irish American Partnership.
“On behalf of Mallow Development Partnership and on my own behalf, I sincerely wish to thank Sean Sherlock TD who has been working tirelessly, not just this year but for years past to secure this very welcome funding,” said Mr. Cronin.
The Munster Maths and Science Family Fair will be held on Sunday, 15th October, from 11.30am to 4.30pm in the Carrigoon GAA Complex in Mallow.
