James Sugrue to represent Ireland in Sweden

Mallow golfer James Sugrue is having a very busy couple of weeks after his spectacular Amateur Championship win in Portmarnock, and this Wednesday he was teeing it up with the stars of the game at the Pro-Am before the start of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Lahinch. He has also been named on the Ireland men’s team that will contest the upcoming European Amateur Team Championships from 9th-13th July in Ljunghusen, located on Sweden’s southern tip, above the Baltic Sea. After two rounds of strokeplay qualifying, the top eight teams will progress to Flight A for the matchplay stages, and the winners of Flight A will be crowned European champions. The Ireland men’s team will be accompanied by Ireland captain John Carroll (Bandon), Niall MacSweeney (Athenry) and GUI National Coach Neil Manchip. All of James’s focus is now on the impending British Open in Royal Portrush later this month, and then he has the Masters at Augusta and the US Open in Winged Foot to look forward in 2020, and as if that wasn’t enough, he will also be on the Walker Cup team against the US.
