Kilfinane Christmas tree makes the cut on RTÉ’s Countrywide programme – By John Barrett

Local listeners were delighted to hear a story about Kilfinane on the national airwaves on Saturday morning last when a lovely festive piece, as featured in RTÉ Radio’s Countrywide programme, told the story of the erection of a Christmas tree in the town.
The segment, which was edited and produced by the Kilfinane based Diarmuid McIntyre of Grey Heron Media, relayed how the highest town in County Limerick planned to erect one of the tallest trees around, which might even be seen as far away as Limerick City on a clear night.
The project, organised by Kilfinane Community Council, ran into a slight hiccup when part of the 40 foot tree came a cropper as it was being erected.

Adding to the drama
However, this just all added to the drama of the RTÉ Radio One piece, with the tree being eventually trimmed to suit and taking pride of place in the town, where it now stands proud and brilliantly illuminated for all to admire as we count down to Christmas.
And, for that, locals can thank Kilfinane Community Council under chairperson, Ruth McAullife and the team that spearheaded the initiative.
The radio production, as always handled expertly by Grey Heron Media, was further enhanced by the lovely festive music on fiddle courtesy of Liam Flanagan and Claire O’Loughlin.
