Abbeyfeale is the place to be for the next five days, as the Gather by the Feale Viking Summer Festival takes place. Events today (Wednesday) include a Wobbly Circus for the smallies, a Tug of War for seniors, ladies and under 21s, dancing to Mike Condon at the Railway, and the Rambling House in the Ploughman. Tomorrow, Thursday there will be a workshop on hair and make-up, and shuttle buses will leave for Feale Fit Boot Camp for the Fittest Family from 6pm. There will be a Heritage talk with Eamon Ó Liatháin, a Bachelor Slave Auction, and a Bat Walk in the Town Park. Friday’s attractions include a food and craft fair, Fancy Dress Trade Wars, and No Direction on the Gig Rig, a Teen Disco with D J Killian Murphy in the Grove, and N21 in Matt McCoy’s. Saturday will see a treasure hunt for U10s and 10s-plus in the Town Park, an Arts and Crafts Workshop in the Grove, as well as the annual Noelie Roche Tag Rugby Tournament with BBQ, music with No Direction, as well as plenty of activities for all the family. This will be followed by a Gospel and Folk Mass at 7pm, and live music on the Gig Rig featuring Sound as a Pound, Kadie Harnett and the Young Woulfe Tones, with the Threshing Mill Boys across the road in Matt McCoy’s. There will also be a 41 card game at Fr. Casey’s from 9-11pm, and a festival special at The Railway Bar from 9.30pm with Micheal Collins. Families will be well catered for on Sunday in the Grove, with a Family Fun Day featuring a mega slide, bungee jumping, animal roadshow, Bouncy Castle, motor track, children’s tug of war, food and ice cream stalls and more. There will also be the Abbey Utd 7-a-Side Soccer Tournament semi-finals and final at Riverside Park, the Battle of the DJs on the Gig Rig in the Square, and to finish there will be a Scatterin’ Disco in Ruby’s, and The Baldy John Show in Matt McCoy’s.
