Locals helping locals during crisis times

It’s at difficult times like the COVID-19 pandemic that the true community spirit reveals itself, and many Mallow groups are mobilising to help those who are in isolation or ‘cocooning’. Check out the following:
Mallow GAA, in partnership with Dano’s SuperValu Bellevue, Herlihy’s Centra, Main Street, and O’Mahony’s Centra, Spa Glen, would like to offer assistance to anyone and everyone who needs it, be it collecting/delivering shopping, fuel, collecting from a pharmacy, or just a chat at the window. This GAA initiative was designed to help the elderly but the club would like to extend it to anyone who cannot get out for essential items, whatever the reason. They have had a fantastic response from volunteers in the club who will all be on call in the coming weeks, and they are look forward to meeting everyone. They will, of course, maintain standards under the HSE guidelines at all times. If anyone needs anything over the coming days, don’t hesitate to phone/text on 087 653 1107. The club understands that some who might want to avail of this service are not on social media, so hopefully the word will get out and people will phone/text the number.
Mallow Search and Rescue is available to help senior citizens or vulnerable people in our community if they want to have any shopping done, for exemple the pharmacy, supermarket etc. Please contact John 087 6353 850, Gavin 086 0577 310, Willie 086 231 6091, email mallowsearchandrescue@gmail.com, or private message the unit’s Facebook page.
A group of Mallow RFC members have volunteered to help out any members or friends of the club who are struggling to get out for the essentials at this time. If you need assistance, please contact Jason on 086 0896 868 or email pro@mallowrfc.com or even just message them via social media.
These are just a few of the local organisations offering help, and there are also many individuals who would be happy to help out. If any person or group would like to let the public know that they are available, email details to steve@valestar and we will hopefully create a register of people and groups for the coming weeks in the Mallow Star.
