Major extension announced for Charleville CBS Primary

One of the largest investments by the Department of Education in the education system in the history of Charleville was announced recently with news that approval had been given for a state-of-the-art extension to CBS Primary, as well as a complete refurbishment of the existing school. A building consultant will be appointed by the school authorities in the coming days, and it is hoped that construction will start early in the new year, subject to planning permission being approved. Construction will comprise six mainstream classrooms, two resource rooms, entrance lobby and reception area, as well as offices and ancillary accommodation. Further funding has been sanctioned for the complete redevelopment of the existing building which, when completed, will consist of two special classes, a meeting room, an OT room, sensory room, staff room, 2 learning support rooms, 2 resource rooms, office accommodation and storage rooms.

2016 will mark the 150th anniversary of the Christian Brothers who arrived in the town in 1866 and established a school. The current building was constructed in 1970.

It is also planned to add an IT lab and a library, but these will have to be funded by the local community, and anyone interested in helping with fundraising, please contact the CBS office and leave your name and number, and they will contact you with details of the first meeting later this month.
