For the first time, the Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) Summit will be held in Ireland, namely in Adare.
From next Wednesday through to the following Saturday, the summit will bring together creative professionals both in front of and behind the camera, funders, broadcasters, commissioners, researchers and advocates from across the world.
The programme of speakers includes Oscar-nominated actress Ruth Negga of Limerick, Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga, actor, director and producer Aisha Tyler and Emmy-winning director Dearbhla Walsh.
Panellists will include representatives from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, TG4, the British Film Institute, Canada Media Fund, Nordisk Film and TV Fond, the Swedish Film Institute and more.
The summit will also attract senior executives and thought leaders from across the global screen industries.
Delegates will travel from all over Europe and as far afield as New Zealand, Australia, India, the US, Africa and Jamaica.
Minister for Culture Patrick O’Donovan acknowledged the event’s significance for Ireland’s international reputation in the industry.
He said: “Ireland has a strong and growing inter-national reputation for creative excellence, colla-boration and innovation in film and television.
“Hosting this summit in Adare is a significant moment for the sector, bringing global leaders to the Mid-West and re- inforcing our commitment to gender equality, diverse storytelling and the future sustainability of the screen industries.”
President WIFTI Dr. Susan Liddy, of Limerick, added: “We are bringing together voices from across the world to address equity, innovation, storytelling and the future of the screen industries, while show-casing Ireland’s talent, hospitality, rich landscapes and creative ambition on a global stage.”
