Ballyduff Drama Group will next week present the Irish premiere of ‘The Welkin’ by Lucy Kirkwood, and among the cast are two Mallow actors, Deirdre Linehan and Sandra Nyhan. The play is directed by Ger Canning, and it will be staged in St Michael’s Hall, Ballyduff, on Friday next February 17th, Saturday 18th, Sunday 19th, Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th and Sunday 26th of February at 8pm.
Deirdre has had a life-time interest in drama and attended Theatre Studies in Coláiste Stíopháin Naofa, taking part in their end-of-year production of ‘The Sunbeam Girls’ in Cork Opera House. Returning to Mallow, she joined local drama group Centre Stage (later known as On Q) and acted in various parts, playing Wishy-Washy in ‘Aladdin’ and many more productions. She played Harriet in ‘Cupid Wore Skirts’, Ivy in ‘Separate Beds’ and Madge in ‘The Real McCoy’.
In latter years, Deirdre has found a warm welcome with the Glen Theatre Group in Banteer where she has performed in ‘Caught on the Hop’, ‘The Maiden Aunt’, and ‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’. She is delighted to get this opportunity to take part in a festival production.
Sandra Nyhan, a relative newcomer to acting, will play the role of Helen Ludlow. She played Winifred McQueen in ‘The Honey Spike’ with The Pilgrim Players, Mallow, way back in the 90s, and has had a lifetime passion for all things related to stage and screen. She has completed a few drama courses and is most proud of achieving a Gold Medal in Drama with LAMDA in 2022. Sandra is delighted to be treading the boards with Ballyduff Drama Group and is thoroughly enjoying the experience.
Booking lines for the play are open on 058 60456 (2-8pm) or tickets can be purchased at the box office on the night. The organisers are looking forward to welcoming you all to Ballyduff.
