On Wednesday 11th May, Mallow hosted a significant event when nine third level colleges were looking to place people with businesses in Mallow. The colleges were UCC, CIT, St John’s College, Year International Training, Colaiste Stiofáin Naofa, and Mallow College of Further Education. This event was organised by Maura Hunter of MH Designs, Maura has a growing reputation as an interior designer, is familiar to fans of the RTE show ‘At Your Service,’ and has featured in the last seven series of the programme. Maura is also Regional Chairperson of the Cork County Chambers of Commerce.

The chamber members of the various towns come together to share ideas and help the county grow through sharing information.

It is in this capacity that she came in contact with the third level colleges. “They are very eager to come to Mallow and meet the business people of Mallow,” said Maura. “CIT places over 800 students every year in internships and work placements.”

The event was well attended by over 80 businesses in Mallow. The format of the meeting consisted of a 3 minute presentation from each college. After the presentations each college then returned to their stands and answered questions from individuals. The event was sponsored by Mallow Chamber and Mallow Development Partnership. Sean Lynch, Mallow Chamber President, was delighted with the event as it linked graduates with employers. So successful was the event, it has been suggested that another one be held in November.

“Well done to Maura Hunter for taking the initiative to hold this excellent event,” said Sean Lynch.
