Mallow roundabout to be revamped

It has been announced that Cork County Council will be revamping Annabella Roundabout in Mallow in the near future. The news was welcomed by Cllr Gearóid Murphy who said that Kanturk-Mallow Municipal District officials and gardening staff will be examining the roundabout over the next few weeks and will come back to councillors with a proposed design for the job. “The plan is to remove every-thing currently in the roundabout (including the red ‘Mallow’ signs) and start from scratch,” Cllr Murphy said. “I am really looking forward to seeing a fresh new look for the roundabout. I have asked that biodiversity and pollination be incorporated into the design.”
There have been many calls to change the look of the roundabout in recent years after the original horse sculpture was removed and red ‘Mallow’ lettering was put in its place. Motorists have also expressed dissatisfaction with the layout of the roundabout, saying that people entering the roundabout from the Annabella side don’t have a clear view of traffic coming from the Limerick Road, though there is nothing in the council statement to say that they plan to do anything about this issue.
