Mallow St Patrick’s Day Parade

The 2024 Mallow St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place at 2:30pm this Sunday, 17th March, and will parade down the Main Street and past the reviewing platform outside the former Central Hotel. Assembly for participants will be at 2pm on the Park Road. The Grand Marshals of this year’s parade are the Thomas Davis Pipe Band and, in recognition of their centenary, this year’s theme will be ‘Mallow Then and Now’. From 2:15pm, the pipe band will march through the town and entertain the crowd with their music.
An addition to this year’s event is an autism-friendly and sensory viewing area in the West End, before Food Capers, where noise will be reduced. This area will be clearly marked by balloons, and groups and vehicles will be asked to pass quietly. There will also be face painters on the grounds of St. Mary’s Church.
Speaking about the parade, Committee Chair Cllr. Gearóid Murphy said: “Preparations are now well underway and I am really looking forward to another colourful and vibrant parade this year. It is also particularly fitting to honour the Thomas Davis Pipe Band as part of the parade. As usual, there has been great support from the community, from the many groups taking part to the very generous donations we have received from local businesses and Cork County Council.”
The committee is still actively seeking volunteers and if anyone would like to help out as a steward for a few hours on the day, please contact Gearóid on 087 6602867, or g.murphy.bl@hotmail.com. Also, any remaining parade participants who have not yet registered their interest are asked to contact Máire Uí Bhriain as soon as possible on 086 32 33 779 or naionratd@gmail.com.
