Mallow Swans Swimming Club

Competition was high at the University of Limerick recently for the National Divisional 2, with over 73 clubs competing throughout the 32 counties. Mallow, with a squad of only 7 swimmers, made a big impression. Ella Fuohy had an outstanding weekend, taking gold in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, an unbelievable performance with times that give her the title of the fastest at Division 2 level for 200m breaststroke in the country at all age levels; Jed Duane warded off stiff competition to take silver in 200m front crawl, giving him an outstanding personal best for this race; and Rachel Murphy also had a fantastic weekend, winning her heat and securing a place in the challenging final of the 200m breaststroke and taking silver. These three swimmers have secured times to allow them to go forward for the most prestigious event in swimming in Ireland, the Division Ones, at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin, starting on 18th July, competing against Olympic hopefuls for 2016.

Lean Duane, Colin O’Keeffe, Clare Lynn and Orla Bowen also had a very successful weekend, attaining very significant personal bests in all races. We congratulate each swimmer for their achievement and dedication.
