Mallow Swimming Pool is set to have a phased reopening from Monday week, 14th September, following a €5.1 million upgrade which saw the amenity closed for around 21 months. There will be restricted opening hours and limited capacity in the beginning, and the plan is to return to full opening hours in October. Local councillors were given a tour of the new pool last Friday, and afterwards they expressed admiration for the work which has been done, and said they were looking forward to seeing it reopened to the public once again.
The pool has been closed since January of last year for the major upgrade which includes a new extension with reception, administration, staff facilities and visitors’ room, plus a refurbished pool area, modern changing facilities, upgraded mechanical and electrical services, and improved thermal efficiency and energy ratings. The roof of the pool building has been fitted with solar panels, and the car park in front has also been extended, with a section of the green area across from Mallow Youth Centre being tarmacked and lined for car users. When open, the pool will be a major boon for pool users, schools, clubs like Mallow Swans and Mallow Tri Club, and other users.
Mallow Swimming Pool was first opened in 1973 following a huge fundraising campaign in the town, and in the mid-90s it received a major upgrade.
