Marguerites’s Bakery and Restaurant of Newcastle West – a landmark in West Limerick – will possibly close at the end of the year. Established in 1970, Marguerite’s has been providing many happy customers with delicious treats and exquisite fare ever since.
There is the possibility of the business being taken over by new owners.
“We are encouraged by the level of interest from people who wish to continue operating the business even though we only announced our retirement in recent days. We are optimistic that the business will continue into the future under new management,” the Condon family said in a statement.
The family explained: “After more than five wonderful decades, our family has made the bittersweet decision to retire and bring our bakery and restaurant chapter to a close on December 31st.
“This journey began in the late 1960s with a simple aim: to bake quality breads, cakes and confectionery, and to serve honest, delicious food, made with care. Over the years, we’ve been honoured to become part of so many family mile-stones, from christening cakes to birthday cakes, wedding cakes, and everything in between.
“It’s been our greatest joy to grow alongside our community and share in your celebrations.”
The statement concluded: “To our loyal customers, thank you for your friendship, your support and for making us part of your lives for so many years. To our dedicated staff, past and present, we could not have done it without your hard work, passion, and commitment to excellence. You’ve truly been the heart of our business.
“From our family to yours, thank you for more than half a century of memories, laughter, and shared moments. With heartfelt gratitude, the Condon family, and all the team at Marguerite’s”.
