Mayor’s Award for Mary

Mary Manning.

Mary Manning’s hard work on behalf of the community of Dromahane received due recognition last week when she was named winner of the overall individual award at the annual Mayor’s Community Awards. Mary was nominated by Cllr Tony O’Shea for her dedication to her local community, particularly Dromahane Development Association, and her involvement in the development of Dromahane Community Park. Another local nominee was Nicholas Roche from Killavullen, for his work with older community members and for maintain-ing the village.
In the Community Groups category, three organi-sations received nominat-ions; Mallow Arts Collective which organises the annual Mallow Arts Festival, Mallow Art and Crafts Market for their pop-up art markets, and Corrin Nature Reserve. The winning group was Corrin Nature Reserve, open since 2019, and nominated by Cllr William O’Leary in recognition of their achievements, includ-ing the reintroduction of the near extinct native Grey Partridge bird.
County Mayor Mary Linehan-Foley commended all nominees for their commitment and dedi-cation to their commun-ities, saying “These annual awards celebrate the best of our county’s goodwill, generosity and altruism. It’s an important opport-unity to acknowledge and celebrate the selfless work of volunteers who have supported our communities, our vulnerable or those impacted since Covid-19. “We celebrate too those who have committed their energy to long term projects that make Cork County a better place to live, making real measurable difference to people’s lives. I congratu-late you all on your nominations.”
