It was a very successful weekend for local competitors at the Special Olympics in Limerick. Twelve service users from St. Joseph’s Foundation in Charleville were among the competitors and they all performed very well: William O’Gorman, Dromcollogher, in 5 a side men’s soccer, Maeve Long in swimming, Julianne McCarthy from Buttevant, a pupil at the Holy Family School, in aquatics, Brendan Cronin, Bruff, and Bernadette Cronin, Tullylease, in athletics all returned home with gold medals.
Jeremy Brosnan, Mallow, Therese Clifford, Ard-patrick, and Joseph Keogh, Emly, in golf, David O’Connell, Ardpatrick, David O’Brien, Rockhill, Rebecca Bourke, Kilmal-lock, and Shauna Quinlan, Newmarket, all performed very well in their respective disciplines and brought home many silver and bronze medals.
All the competitors were winners at the weekend and some are now in line to be selected for the Ireland team for the Special Olympics in Los Angeles in July 2015.
