Michael wins Hamilton Prize

Michael Keyes, a former pupil at Scoil Naomh Iosef and Hazelwood College, Dromcollogher, has been awarded the Hamilton Prize in Mathematics, sponsored by Arup, an international engineering consulting firm. The presentation ceremony was held at the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street in Dublin, last Thursday, January 25th. Each year ten third-level institutions on the island of Ireland nominate their best mathematics students, based on their examination results in third year. Michael was nominated by the University of Limerick. Dr Sarah Mitchell, head of the maths department at UL, accompanied Michael as his sponsor. The prize and scroll were presented by Professor Pat Guiry, Science Secretary of the RIA.
