MILFORD’S ANNA IS CORK ROSE

The 2014 Cork Rose is Milford’s Anna Geary. She was announced as the winner at a gala event in Silversprings Hotel on Saturday night.

Attending the event were the Mayor of Cork, Cllr Alan Coleman, Cork Roses from previous years including Denise Murphy O’Sullivan, and the 2014 Limerick, Kilkenny, Kerry and Liverpool Roses.

Anna, who was sponsored by Collins’s bar, Milford, is a marketing professional at Dell Software. The 26 year old holds a Business Degree from the University of Limerick and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations from CIT.

Anna has a passion for sport and is the current Cork senior camogie captain, and is one of the finest exponents of the sport of her generation. The holder of three All-Ireland senior medals with Cork and two Munster and All-Ireland senior club medals with her native Milford, Anna Geary has been named an All-Star on four occasions.

Her involvement in sport has afforded her opportunities including working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and RTE. The Cork Rose featured on live commentary on Radio One with Michéal O Muircheartaigh for the All Ireland Senior Camogie final 2010, and with Pauric Lodge for the 2011 final as well as appearing on a number of other shows including the RTE documentary “Skin in the Game” in 2013.

While living in Luxem-bourg she discovered her love of travel and has since worked with the Higher Education Authority to promote studying/working abroad during university. She is an advocate for greater use of the Irish language, as well as being a fashion and Bikram Yoga enthusiast.

Anna will compete for the coveted Rose of Tralee title with contestants from Ireland, Britain and around the world during the annual festival in the town in August.
