On Friday December 2nd Minister Patrick O’Donovan cut the ribbon and officially opened the extension to Meenkilly N.S. There was a special blessing of the extension which was performed by our Chairperson Canon Tony Mullins. The Lord Mayor of Limerick City and County Francis Foley, who has strong family connections in Meenkilly, also attended. Our local Councillor Liam Galvin was also present, as was Junior Minister Niall Collins,
parents, grandparents and friends of Meenkilly were all present.
It was all about the children who make Meenkilly NS a very special place, they performed songs and played their tin whistles to mark the occasion. Thanks to David O’Sullivan Construction from Mountcollins who completed this project to a very high standard. David Senior was presented with a token to celebrate a recent big birthday. Also, thanks to Kevin Kennelly and his team for designing this beautiful extension.
Noel O’Connor and the Buckley family donated two beautiful plaques to Meenkilly NS. One of these plaques was to honour the late Ger Roche who dedicated 35 years to the Meenkilly card game and raised much needed funds for the school down through the years. It was a very special day for the Roche family to mark the memory of Ger (RIP).
The children of Meenkilly thanked all the dignitaries for coming to mark our special day and also thanked Murphy’s Bakery and Niamh McCarthy for donating such delicious treats.
