Minister sets up online petition against traffic lights

Minister of State Seán Sherlock has issued a final call to Cork County Council to turn off the traffic lights at the end of Tuckey’s Hill in Mallow, and has also started an online petition, www.seansherlock.ie/mallow-traffic, which local people are encouraged to sign.

“I have been calling for the lights to be turned off at this junction and on the bridge for some time,” said Minister Sherlock. “Last Saturday at 12 noon there was a queue of traffic from St Joseph’s Road to Tuckey’s Hill. It’s just not working. Cork County Council and local councillors are just not listening. I have started an online petition today in order to show the local authority and the members of the local authority the level of anger among the people of Mallow at this issue. If this is what is happening on a Saturday, what will happen when schools are back? These lights need to be turned off.

“Traffic is putting people off coming into town and traders are losing out. This is an issue which must be taken seriously,” he said.
