MODEL UNITED NATIONS

On 11th and 12th November sixteen TY students from St. Mary’s Secondary School took part in the ninth national Model United Nations which took place in UCC. Three delegations from St. Mary’s represented Colombia, France and Egypt. They were assigned to committees based on the UN’s most important bodies, e.g. the Security Council. All topics were based on current events. After a year of sweeping international changes, including the Arab Spring and famine in east Africa, there was plenty of scope for interesting discussion. Emerging diplomats Aisling O’Connor and Lisa Buckley did the school proud by receiving special certificates of achievement. Well done to all the girls.
