Monagea for CRY Walk/Run/Cycle takes place this Saturday, 30th April. This event was set up after the death of Niamh Herlihy, who died on April 19th, 2011, and
Darra O’Donovan, who died on December 12th, 2011, from SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome). Both families, along with the Monagea community, came together and created the event to remember Niamh and Darra.
This is great day out and anyone who has taken part over the years and enjoyed it, comes back again. Runners/walkers can go at their own pace or compete on a 10km flat walking route; there is also the option of a 5km route for anyone who feels that 10km is too long. Cyclists have four options, 25km, 70km, 110km, and the toughest route, the West Limerick Endurance 125, which is a serious challenge and a spin that is gaining a reputation in the cycling scene. Registration for all events takes place this Friday evening from 7-9pm, and again Saturday morning from 8am in Monagea hall. The walk/run costs €10 and the cycle costs €25 (extra €3 if you are not a member of Cycling Ireland); the 25km route is €10 for under 16s but they must be accompa-nied by an adult. The organisers get huge help from West Limerick AC and Desmond Sportive Cycling Club, and it is invaluable to the success of the event. For more on the event, see page 3.
