Most enjoyable Kilmeedy Rambling House

On Friday night last January 18th Kilmeedy Rambling House got the New Year off to a great start with a most enjoyable night of great music, singing, storytelling and some dancing as well. Organiser and M.C. Seán O’Gorman welcomed friends from Freemount, Feenagh-Kilmeedy, Castlemahon, Monagea, Newcastle West, Rathkeale and Croom and he also apologised for a good number who could not attend. He got the lively session going with some lovely tunes from Dan Madigan, accordion and John O’Gorman on the triangle. For the remainder of the night there was a great variety of entertainment in singing, music and storytelling from all of the following: Ned Magee (accordion)Stephen Madigan (accordion), Donie Madigan (tin whistle), Seán O’Gorman (bodhrán), Jack Sullivan (accordion), John Collins (accordion), Eilish Reidy (accordion), John O’Gorman (triangle), Dan Madigan (accordion), Singers: Pat Sheehan (Some Enchanted Evening, Our Wedding Day), John Collins (This Is My Homeland), Stiophán Moloney (Mary’s Ass, Silvery Light of the Moon), Paula Reidy (The Story I Tell You Is True, The Mulcair River, Rocks of Bawn), Paula and Eilish Reidy (Four and Nine), Nora Kennedy (Noreen Bawn, In My Father’s House, My Home in Aberdeen, My Brown Bread), John Kett (Gentle Mother, 21 Years is a Mighty Long Time, It is Only A Beautiful Picture), John Hughes (Red is the Rose, From the Candy Store, Your Mother Took My Man Long Long Ago), Margaret Corbett (Ireland Free Once More), Storytelling: (Mikey’s Operation by John Collins who during the night sang, played and danced a hornpipe). Before the break all joined in singing “Happy Birthday” to the man at the helm Seán, wishing him a very happy 81st birthday. During the break all enjoyed the tea, sandwiches, cake and sausages with much thanks to the ladies doing the good catering. The enjoyable session continued until shortly after midnight and during the second half many won prizes in the raffle. Before the night concluded Seán thanked all who came along to make the occasion such a success and all who contributed to the enjoyable entertainment. He wished everyone a safe journey home and looked forward to meeting all again in Áras Íde on Friday night February 15th at 8.30pm.
