Nagle Rice Secondary School Doneraile Welcomes New Deputy Principal


The Board of Management of Nagle Rice Secondary School, Doneraile, is delighted to announce Damien Carey as the newly-appointed Deputy Principal of Nagle Rice effective from September 1st 2021.
Damien is a Doneraile man and a past pupil of Nagle Rice. He is a graduate of University College Cork with a B.SC in Bio-chemistry, followed by his Higher Diploma in Education. He has since completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Manage-ment.
Damien comes to Nagle Rice Secondary School from Desmond College Newcastlewest where he has been teaching for the past 20 years. Throughout his time in Desmond College, he held various leadership roles including acting Deputy Principal. Damien has led many initiatives throughout his career to date to aid the provision of quality teaching to enhance learning.
Damien has a genuine passion for developing students into young adults who will contribute positively to society and the community in the future. He will be a strong leader and role model for the school community. He is looking forward to creating a personal connection with students, staff and parents/guardians in the Nagle Rice.
Damien is married to Susan and they have two children – Molly Mae and Jack. Damien is very involved in the local Doneraile community particularly in Doneraile Golf Club and Doneraile GAA.
Speaking of his appointment as Deputy Principal in Nagle Rice, Damien said
“It is an honour to have been appointed as Deputy Principal of Nagle Rice Secondary School. It will be my privilege to return as Deputy Principal to my alma mater and to lead a unique and dynamic school in my local community. I look forward to working with a dedicated and professional staff with decades of collective educational experience. I am very excited about getting to know the students and to create an atmosphere which is conducive to highly effective learning outcomes. It is my ambition to enhance the already excellent teaching and learning that is very evident in Nagle Rice. I am looking forward to working and leading with Bríd Lysaght, Principal, as we enter a new and exciting phase in Nagle Rice Secondary School.”
