The heritage committee of Mallow Development Partnership this week confirmed that Mary Kennedy and her team from the RTE television prog-ramme ‘Nationwide’ will be filming in Mallow next Monday morning, 16th May, to highlight what the town has to offer to the national audience as a ‘great place to visit and holiday in.’ The programme will have Mallow as its main focus, but will also film in other North Cork towns including Doneraile and Buttevant.

Mallow Development Partnership, together with Mallow Chamber and Cork County Council, has been working behind the scenes over the past months to bring this visit by ‘Nationwide’ to fruition.  A spokesperson said, “Mallow is a beautiful town, full of culture and heritage, and offers a wide range of activities, accommodation, restaurants, attractions etc. to the wider national audience, with ‘Nationwide’ being the perfect platform to showcase the town and the North Cork area.”

The filming will focus on highlighting the many and varied attractions that Mallow offers to the visiting tourist.  One of the major assets of the area is the River Blackwater and the activities it offers to anglers and kayaking enthusiasts to name but a few. The heritage of Mallow can be seen from the wonderful historic buildings such as the old and new Mallow castles, Spa House and the Clock House, and the unique herd of white deer on the castle grounds. Thomas Davis Square and the statue of Thomas Davis will be included in the tour of Mallow and filming will highlight the wonderful architecture, shop fronts and birthplaces of well-known Mallow patriots such Canon Sheehan, Thomas Davis and William O’Brien.

Commenting on the visit, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. John Paul O’Shea said it represented a wonderful opportunity for North Cork to showcase all that it has to offer. “Feat-uring on national television is going to be an incredible boost for North Cork and I want to thank RTE in advance for coming to North Cork,” he said. The date of broadcasting will be advised in the coming weeks.
