NEWCASTLE WEST MUSICAL SOCIETY LAUNCHES CAROUSEL

Newcastle West Musical Society launched its upcoming production of Rogers and Hammer-stein’s much loved musical Carousel at Cleary’s Bar in Newcastle West. Following on from the highly lauded production of Fiddler on the Roof, Carousel promises to be an even bigger and more spectacular production.  Director Tom Madigan said ‘Our cast is going from strength to strength, with a big focus on youth development this year’. A forty strong cast will present much loved songs such as ‘You’ll never walk alone’, ‘If I loved you’ and ‘June is bustin’ out all over’.  This production is set to be a high energy, colourful and intense dramatic musical theatre experience.

The leading line-up includes Patrick Sheahan and Anne Marie Murphy in the roles of Billy and Julie, the ill-fated couple. They are strongly sup-ported by Nicky Cotter, Susan Browne, Padraig O’Shea, Emma Chawke and Sue Mullins, all experienced actors in their own right. The principals’ will bring a real depth of character to each role and a quality of singing to do West Limerick proud.

Director Tom Madigan also emphasised that the real strength of the society lies in the rich chorus that brings each scene to life. Each member brings life to the stage and what a show it is going to be! On a yearly basis, the shows are becoming stronger and stronger, rivaling any amateur society in quality.

This year’s production will be staged in the Castlemahon Hall, a new state of the art stage that will be fully utilised by the cast. An impressive set is promised to contribute hugely to this wonderful show. The show opens on Thursday October 30th and runs on October 30th, 31st and November 6th, 7th and 8th. at 8pm nightly. There are only two weekends this year and it certainly is a show not to be missed. Do come along and support the society as it promotes the very best of musical theatre in West Limerick.
