Newtown U15 Girls Crowned Division 2 Cork County Féile Champions

A wonderful weekend for our camogie club as our U15 girls were crowned Division 2 Cork County Feile champions and will represent Cork in the National competition later in the year. A great achievement for our club to win this competition for the second year in a row.  A huge thank you to our club for hosting 2 groups from the qualifying rounds on Saturday morning, this gave our girls a great start in their group with Eniskeane, Carrigaline and Ballygarvan. A cracking game to start against Eniskeane really set the tempo for the entire competition. Our girls came through in this match on a scoreline of 3-4 to 2-1. Marvellous skill and determination on display by both sides and a very entertaining match for the supporters. Carrigaline were the next opposition and Newtown were equal to the challenge and were well on top throughout. Ballygarvan were the last of the group matches and our girls workrate kept the opposition from scoring to qualify for the quarter final on Saturday afternoon against Nemo Rangers. Newtown also hosted this game. We got a foothold in this game from the start and with energy and pace booked a place in the semi-final played on Monday morning bright and early in Castle road, Cork Camogie pitch. Despite the opposition Glen Rovers being a more physical side Newtown’s exceptional heart and ability throughout the field resulted in a final score of 1-5 to 1-0 and a place in the Féile 2022 final. Our opposition St Catherines had notched up some good wins to get to the final. Newtown started well and really played as a unit with some fine passages of play and an intensity that St Catherine’s could not match on the day. Our marvellous supporters and parents were served up a feast of great camogie over the weekend and we thank them sincerely for their loyal support. Each and every girl on the panel played a significant part in the whole Féile Camogie weekend and we are exceptionally proud of them. Thanks also to the club for organising a homecoming bonfire celebration for the team.
