The magnificient, magical show of lights at Noonan’s.
Now that Halloween has passed, the long awaited, much anticipated event that spells the start of the Christmas Season is approaching. That is, of course, the turning on of the Christmas Lights at Noonan’s in Templeglantine. Parents with their children from Limerick, Kerry, Cork and beyond will be lining up to see the official switching on of the lights on November 20th, at 4.30pm, as happens annually.
What started as a small gesture to raise vital funds for local charities has since become a tremendous success and over the years, the charity has raised over €275,000 through the kindness and generosity of sponsors and visitors.
“In 2016, we were absolutely honoured to be the first home to be crowned Energia’s “Most Christmassy Home of the Year”. We were runners up in 2017, and crowned champions again in 2019, winning a combined €9000 for our chosen charities.
Last year, during the Christmas season of 2021, we raised over €28,600 for our 5 chosen charities (Milford Hospice, Blood Bikes Mid-West, Limerick Suicide Watch, Recovery Haven Tralee and Parkin-son’s Limerick). None of this would have been possible without the kindness and generosity of YOU, our visitors, our sponsors, and our friends.
We are so excited to be back again this year and will kick the season off on November 20th 2022 at 4.30pm with very special guests “ Tony said. New-castle West Senior football team, who were crowned county Champions on Sunday last, will also be in attendance with the winning Cup.
The official “Switching on” is being officiated by Limerick’s all Ireland winning goalkeeper and All Star, the great Nickie Quaid, who will also be accompanied by the Liam MacCarthy Cup. Also present will be Tadgh Morley, Kerry’s all-star, and all Ireland winner, accompanied by the Sam McGuire cup, the first time at Noonan’s that both cups will be in attendance! A great opportunity for sporting fans to see the double vision of the All-Ireland winning Hurling and Football cups together.
Noonan’s chosen charities for this year are Milford care centre, Recovery Haven Tralee, Limerick Suicide Watch and Cari, Limerick.
As we are all fully aware, energy costs in the last year have soared for domestic and businesses users all over the country. Consumers have been asked to curtail usage in as far as possible, to spare the national grid. Bringing this into consideration, Noonan’s have made special arrangements to mitigate this by using a generator to power the display. In this way, no electricity will be taken from the national grid. Tony has installed a brand new system in line with all safety regulations and standards to allow the use of the generator to fully power his lights. This has been approved by his insurance company also, which is, as always, fully in place for the event. Egan Electrical, Kilmallock, have kindly sponsored the generator for the seven-week event, and Kostal Abbeyfeale has already donated a thousand euro towards the running costs. More sponsorship has been promised and will greatly add to the funding of Noonan’s chosen charities.
The Busy Bean, a local food truck serving hot and cold beverages will also be present at Noonan’s, as it was last year. But of course, the most anticipated special guest on the opening night will be Santa himself, always a treat for the children at the start of the season.
For many of us who will, through necessity, considerably reduce our lighting features for Christmas this year, visiting Noonan’s will be extra special. The event has not only provided much needed funds for local charities, but it has gladdened the hearts of all of us for many years. The Noonan family are to be commended for its continuing efforts.
