Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan TD has welcomed confirmation that the Health Service Executive (HSE) has received approval to acquire a 43-acre site in Raheen to support the expansion of University Hospital Limerick (UHL).
The site acquisition represents a significant step towards delivering additional hospital capacity for Limerick and the wider Mid-West region.
Welcoming the news, Minister O’Donovan said:
“This is a very important step forward for healthcare in Limerick and across the Mid-West. Securing a site of this scale close to University Hospital Limerick will allow for the planning and delivery of much-needed additional capacity to support patients and frontline staff.”
He added: “People across Limerick and the wider region have long called for greater investment in hospital infrastructure. I welcome this decisive move and I look forward to seeing the project progress so we can deliver expanded healthcare facilities for the growing population of the Mid-West.”
The proposed new site will allow for the development of additional hospital facilities close to the existing campus at Dooradoyle and forms part of wider efforts to address capacity pressures at University Hospital Limerick.
