Newcastle West Youth Club had its official opening on Friday May 22nd to mark the location and setting of their new building next to Newcastle West Community Centre.
Newcastle West Youth Club was established in the town over 40 years ago and its home then was the parish hall with 20 members. The club today has moved location and has 200+ members registered this year. The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers past and present who have given their time because without them the doors of the club would not be open. Also a big thank you to all our members who are always very well disciplined when representing the parish on outings. The committee would also like to extend their gratitude to the Newcastle West Community Centre Committee, without their help and collaboration the building of the new club would not have been possible. Massive thanks to West Limerick Resources for all their aid in getting the building started and especially to Eleanor McLoughlin for her positivity and enthusiasm from the outset. Without our very generous contributors the new building would not have been possible either so again thank you to them.

Limerick Youth Service has always been a great support for the club and we would like to thank all our contacts in the offices in Limerick city. The committee would like to express their gratitude to Fr. Duhig PP for blessing the building and also for his massive support of the club from the very beginning. Three girls who have taken on their roles with great ease and confidence in the last few years are Trisha Corbett, chairperson, Laura Scanlan, vice chairperson and Elaine O’Leary, secretary. A big thanks to these girls who give a lot of time, effort and cooperation to the club.

Last but by no means least the committee would like to express their massive gratitude to John Holland and Jerry O’Donovan who have been involved with the club for numerous years, without their hard work and dedication the club would not be what it is today.

The club will reopen in September, inviting new members for another year and also new volunteers. The committee looks forward to welcoming back old members and getting to know new ones.
