One Hour Free Parking For Christmas a boost for shoppers and traders

You will be able to shop at your ease in Mallow this Christmas following news that everyone will get one hour free parking in public car parks in the town over the festive season. This was the overwhelming view of the members of Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council at their monthly meeting last Friday, when the proposal to offer one-hour free parking to people shopping in Mallow was unanimously approved.

One hour’s free parking in all public car parks will begin on Friday 28th November and will remain in place until Wednesday 24th December. All car parks in the town will allow motorists the first hour free, and if people wish to stay longer, they can do so by paying modest parking charges which are as low as 20 cents for 15 minutes. The current arrangements of free parking before 10am and after 5pm on Monday to Saturday, and free parking all day Sunday, will remain unchanged and in place.

Welcoming the announce-ment of one hour’s free parking in Mallow, the Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District, Cllr. John Paul O’Shea (Ind.), said, “This is a very timely boost for the town and one we should all support. The Municipal District has worked proactively with Mallow Chamber on this initiative, which I am delighted has come to a successful conclusion.”

Shoppers coming to Mallow are reminded that traffic wardens will still be on duty in the town in order to maintain the inward and outward flow of traffic. When you come to Mallow your first hour of parking will be free. If you need to stay longer in the car park, you will need to ensure that you have a parking ticket displayed from when the one-hour free parking finishes. Also, in order to keep the turn-over of car parking on the Main Street of Mallow, parking there will remain limited to one hour.

Endorsing the new park-ing arrangements for the Christmas period, President of Mallow Chamber Kevin O’Keeffe said, “After many years lobbying, this is a great boost and hopefully will keep people shopping in Mallow this Christmas. Shopping locally is less stressful than travelling to the city and spending hours in long queues, so now with the first hour of parking free in Mallow, you can hit the shops in your own time, at no extra cost.”
