Opposition to a proposal contained in Lim-erick County Council’s Local Development Plan for Newcastle West, for the provision of a distributor road through the town’s Demesne, is now reaching fever pitch.
An information session was held in the local County Council offices on Monday evening at which a huge crowd attended, with many queuing for some time to get in. Public representatives, representatives of various organisations and the general public turned out in force to voice outright opposition to the proposal.
Representatives of the planning section of Limerick County Council attended and were left in no doubt about the depth of feeling towards that aspect of the plan.
In advance of the meeting, planners presented an amendment to the original proposal for consideration, which would see the planned road relocated but still skirting the Demesne, and this was deemed to be just as unacceptable as the original proposal.
The plan is on display at Limerick County Council offices until Monday 10th March at 5pm which is also the closing date for the receipt of objections and submissions.
People are encouraged to study the plan, as many objections have already been submitted to Limerick County Council and it is expected that there will be a flood of further objections in the coming weeks.
