Pat to stand for FF in local election

Local businessman Pat Hayes threw his hat into the ring this week for the local elections in May and will stand for Fianna Fáil in the Mallow Municipal District, it has been announced. Pat, who is owner of ‘Country Lifestyle’ in the Spa, will join sitting councillor Gearóid Murphy on the election trail, and is hopeful that they can win two seats on the five-seater council in May. Pat is very involved in community matters and is the current president of Mallow Chamber as well as a member of the Rotary Club and the Racing Home for Easter Festival. He is also a noted angler who has represented Ireland on several occasions.
Fine Gael held its selection convention recently and chose Liam Madden and Cian Moriarty to run for office, while Sinn Fein picked outgoing councillor Melissa Mullane. The Labour Party has not held its convention yet. Several more candidates are expected to stand for election in the next couple of months, so it’s a case of watch this space.
