Planning permission granted for new Kanturk national school

There was welcome news for Kanturk this week with the announcement that planning permission has been given for a new national school in the town. The new school will be an amalgamation of the two existing national schools, giving children and teachers a brand new school with state-of-the-art facilities and 16 new classrooms.

Deputy Áine Collins TD has welcomed the news, saying, “I know how hard everyone has worked on this project and what a great relief it is for everyone that work on the new school can finally start.

“Even before I was elected to the Dáil in 2011 I have been aware of the hard work that was being done by both schools and the local community as talks of a new national school have been circulating in Kanturk for over 18 years. There have been many ups and downs along the way, for example last year we had an issue with an access route owned by a private company. I was able to play a part in resolving this with the company which allowed us to proceed with the planning.  It was another great example of how we can all work together for the benefit of the community.

“Now that we have the planning, it’s so important that we keep up the momentum to ensure that work begins on the school, and that the project is completed as soon as possible.”
