Planning submitted for Patrician Academy development

Several years of waiting for the go-ahead to begin work on the construction of a new Patrician Acad-emy building may be coming an end after planning notices were posted at the entrances to the school this week. The development will consist of a part single-storey, part three-storey extension to the existing school buil-ding, replacing the exten-sion which was badly fire-damaged three years ago. This extension will connect to the eastern side of the existing school building, which is a protected struc-ture, and will comprise 11 classrooms, a two-class-room SNJ unit, and ancil-lary teacher and pupil facilities. The planning also involves the demoli-tion of the entrance gate and boundary wall which faces onto Fair Street, and the construction of a new set-back entrance. No changes are proposed to the School Sports Hall, Science Lab or art buildings.
Mallow TD Sean Sherlock welcomed the news, saying, “I’m delighted to see the planning notice go up for the Academy. We have been working in the background on this for some time and will continue to work to get the school built. We will be monitoring the progress of the planning permission very carefully.”
