Plans In Place For Curraghchase 10k

Plans are now in place for the Curraghchase 10K Run/Walk which will take place on Sunday August 19th and were revealed at a launch evening at Curraghchase House last Friday evening. Organised by Kilcornan Community Development Committee in association with Pieta House, the run/walk will be staged through the picturesque woodland area of Curraghchase Forest Park and local environs. The course will begin in the Kilcornan Community Centre and follow the main N69 into the entrance of Curraghchase Forest Park, along the wooded drive, and around the former residence of famous Irish poet Aubrey de Vere. This road race will also take in many of the forest parks sites of interest including the Gerard McDonnell memorial tree planted in memory of local Kilcornan man Gerard McDonnell, who was the first Irish man to climb to the summit of K2.

The Curraghchase Run/Walk is being organised by the Kilcornan Community Development Committee with the co-operation of Coillte and in association with Pieta House as a fundraiser for a local Astro Turf Sports Facility. A percentage of all registration fees taken for the event will be donated to Pieta House in aid of the prevention of suicide.

The event is being sponsored by numerous local businesses and all persons involved in the administration, organising and marshalling of the event are doing so on a wholly voluntary basis.

There will be cash prizes of €200 for the winners of the men and women’s categories and €100 for 2nd place. A selection of trophies will be presented to further category winners.
