PUPILS FROM BRUREE NS START A GARDEN

With the approval of ‘Sir’, Bruree NS principal Mr. Jimmy Woulfe, I was invited in to talk to the pupils starting the school garden last week. The plot was almost finished being dug over and the rich soil spoke volumes for the care that had been put into the garden over the years. The strawberry plants had been dug out and potted up to allow the patch to be cleared of weeds. Apart from the broad beans, the pupils had successfully saved lots of flower seeds from last year and were going to sow these later in the day. Their enthusiasm and knowledge of what was required to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers was truly impressive. While I was there, they mixed compost, sowed onion sets, beans and peas and will continue planting up and tending the garden for the rest of the year.
