Last Friday night we were delighted to have 5 boxers on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s fight night at the gaa complex in Mallow. All five of our lads boxed brilliant in their exhibition bouts and Jack Healy, Jamie Healy, Angel Faulkner, Jamie Harty and Maria Cronin were all delighted to be part of Katie’s road to Rio fight night as she took on Jelena Jelic from Sweden. Katie had the crowd standing as she boxed brilliant to win a unanimous decision over her Swedish opponent and did the same the following day in Tralee as she got the win over her American opponent Queen Underwood. We would like to thank Kanturk Boxing Club for the invite to the show.

Last Thursday night we had the 3 County Leagues take place in Southside Boxing Club where Willie Casey was first up and got a great win to get things going for us. Conor Collins was next up against John O’Reilly in this county final bout, Conor started well but found the height and range of O’Reilly a bit much but as always Conor gave his all but it just wasn’t his day. He will have another crack in the Munsters in 3 weeks time, well done Conor. Daniel Daly had a cracker against Kerry man John O’Brien, with both lads giving their all with Daly just losing out on a split decision.

Jamie Healy had a good win stopping his man in the second round. Martin McDonagh lost out to Cillian Spillane in a fight Martin should be winning but swinging widely at times as Spillane’s punches were landing cleanly. Martin Faulkner was back to his best as he took apart Thomas McDonagh from Ennis with very crisp punching and foot movement. William and Andrew Faulkner also had good wins on the night.

Well done to all our boxers.

We made the trip back into Southside again the following night with 15 boxers who took part in a sparring session and all did very well.

Cian O’Shaughnessy heads to London this Thursday with an Irish select team so we would like to wish him the very best of luck.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

Last weekend we held our annual church gate collection and we would like to thank everyone who came out and supported us in the very bad weather as without your support we would not survive as a club, so thanks very much.
