Rathkeale project is up for National Award

Best wishes are extended to Rathkeale Pre-Social Cohesion Project, one of four Limerick groups in the running for the All-Ireland Pride of Place Awards which will take place online this Saturday November 21st, hosted by Marty Morrissey.
Also up for awards is Vale View Residents’ Association in Kilfinane, Monaleen Park Residents’ Association, and Bedford Row Family Project.
Rathkeale Pre-Social Cohesion Project works to bring together Traveller and settled communities in the town. It is unique in that it promotes cross-community leadership and understanding and encourages the development of civic pride. The work of the project is defined and carried out by an ecumenical committee consisting of represen-
tatives from both comm-unities and local churches.
The All Ireland Pride of Place Awards are organised by Co-Operation Ireland and promote and celebrate the best in community development, recognising the selfless efforts of people in making their local area a better place to live, work and socialise. Local authorities from across the island nominate groups in their communities who they feel have made a significant contribution to improving their neighbourhood, working collectively.
Mayor Michael Collins this week wished the Limerick entries the best of luck, saying “all four groups have to be commended and con-gratulated for the huge amount of work they do for their communities. They are among the unsung heroes who are doing brilliant work in their communities. There’s a fantastic sense of civic spirit in Limerick, with communities like these showing exactly what can be achieved when they work together.” For more information, go to prideofplace.ie or check out Limerick.ie/pride-of-place.
