Ray Cuddihy from Doneraile, co-presenter of Home School Hub, which is broadcast on RTE2 from Monday to Friday, 11.00am-12 noon.
There was a strong North Cork connection to ‘Home School Hub’, which began on RTÉ Television this week, as one of the three teachers is Muinteoir Ray, or Ray Cuddihy as he is known in his native Doneraile. The programme is designed to give primary school pupils a classroom-style learning experience, and the reaction has been very positive from young people and their parents. The first segment of the programme was aimed at first and second-class pupils, and Muinteoir Ray focused on geography, explaining how to use an actual map, and outlining why using a map is better than using your phone. He then asked children to send in their maps to ‘Home School Hub’ so that he could see their good work.
Ray is a recent graduate of Mary Immaculate College, having com-pleted the Professional Master of Education last year. After he got the call from RTÉ, Ray quickly rounded up teachers, Clíona and John, and they decide to divide up the classes per curriculum, with Ray taking first and second class, John taking third and fourth, and Clíona taking fifth and sixth. Ray’s family are very well-known in the Doneraile area, and it is said that his grandfather Jim owned the first bulldozer in Doneraile, and he used the machine for good local works, such as levelling the local GAA field, and also helping the big comm-unity effort to build the beautiful grotto at the entrance to Doneraile in the Marian year of 1954.
